POE

Polyolefin elastomer (ethylene-octene copolymer) — Adds low-temperature impact strength and flexibility. Used as an impact modifier in compounding, cable, footwear and automotive parts.

Technical view

What is POE and what is it for?

POE is an ethylene-octene copolymer made with a metallocene catalyst. Its high comonomer content lowers crystallinity and gives the material near-rubber elasticity, yet its polyolefin backbone keeps it fully compatible with PP and PE. That combination makes POE the standard impact modifier for polypropylene.

Adding 10–25% POE to a PP compound markedly raises Izod impact values, especially at −20 °C and below, while modulus and heat deflection temperature drop somewhat. The right balance is set by choosing density (comonomer content) and melt flow index — lower MFI grades give higher impact, higher MFI grades better flow.

Main uses are automotive bumper and interior compounds, HFFR cable compounds, shoe soles, TPO roofing membrane and solar encapsulation film.

  • Low-temperature impact strength
  • Full compatibility with PP and PE
  • Grade choice by density and MFI
  • Suitable for HFFR and TPO recipes
