MX-Nylon (MXD6)
Meta-xylylene adipamide polyamide — High-barrier polyamide. Reduces gas permeability and raises mechanical performance in PET bottle co-injection, film and compounding.
Technical view
What is MX-Nylon (MXD6) and what is it for?
MX-Nylon is an aromatic polyamide produced by polycondensation of meta-xylylene diamine with adipic acid. The aromatic rings in the chain restrict molecular mobility, giving markedly higher gas barrier, higher modulus and lower moisture uptake than aliphatic polyamides such as PA6 and PA66.
Its processing temperature is close to that of PET, which makes it usable as a barrier layer in co-injected bottles and in the PET bottle wall. On the film side it serves as an alternative or complement to EVOH; in compounding it is chosen for dimensional stability and surface quality in glass-fibre reinforced systems.
Main uses are beer and soft drink bottles, hot-fill packaging, high-barrier film and engineering compounds.
- Higher gas barrier than PA6 / PA66
- Processing temperature compatible with PET
- High modulus and dimensional stability
- Used in film, bottle and compounding
