Polybutene-1 (PB-1)
Easy-peel additive polymer — Provides controlled peel strength in PE and PP structures. Delivers consistent opening performance in easy-open lidding film and tray sealing.
Technical view
What is Polybutene-1 (PB-1) and what is it for?
When polybutene-1 is blended into a polyethylene or polypropylene sealant at set ratios it phase-separates. On sealing, a controlled weak plane forms between the two phases and failure propagates along it when the pack is opened. The result is a seal that opens without tearing or stringing, with a predictable force.
Peel strength is tuned by the PB-1 ratio; typically the higher the ratio, the lower the force. This allows one recipe family to cover both easy-open tray lids and products that need a stronger seal on the same line.
Main uses are fresh meat and cheese trays, ready-meal containers, medical packaging and easy-open lidding film.
