Metallocene LLDPE (mLLDPE)

Metallocene-catalysed linear low density polyethylene and plastomer (POP) — Narrow molecular weight distribution giving outstanding puncture and impact strength, low seal initiation temperature and high clarity.

Technical view

What is Metallocene LLDPE (mLLDPE) and what is it for?

LLDPE produced with a metallocene catalyst has a far narrower molecular weight and comonomer distribution than its Ziegler-Natta counterparts. Because short-chain branching is distributed evenly across chains, the same density delivers markedly higher puncture resistance, elongation at break and impact strength. In practice this means achieving the same performance with a thinner film.

The second defining property is a low seal initiation temperature. Used as a sealant, it raises line speed, improves sealing through contamination (hot tack) and reduces waste on filling lines. Grades using hexene or octene as comonomer take on plastomer (POP) behaviour as density drops, gaining softness and tack.

Main uses are stretch hood, protection film, heavy-duty sacks, MDO-PE and mono-material (All-PE) recyclable packaging structures, HFFR cable compounds and lamination films.

  • High puncture and impact strength
  • Low seal initiation temperature
  • Down-gauging potential
  • Suitable for All-PE and MDO-PE structures
